Tsundoku

A Japanese word for acquiring books never intending to read. It is a proven fact that buying books and reading them are two entirely different hobbies.

The slang term originated in Japan during the Meiji era (1868-1912) and is often used to describe the phenomenon of buying more books than one can possibly read in a lifetime and people now view it as a reflection of intellectual curiosity and a “fruitful relationship with knowledge”.
